Waverley Returns to Glasgow

On Wednesday 9th September Waverley sailed from Brodick back to Glasgow Science Centre for her winter lay-up.

Although Waverley’s already severely truncated season ended early in the most undesirable of ways, the fact that she was able to sail in 2020 stands as a testament to her many supporters and the hard work of Dales Marine, subcontractors, Waverley’s officers and crew and the team at Lancefield Quay. Waverley will, as usual, remain at her Plantation Quay berth over winter for maintenance prior to her annual pre-season drydocking.

Waverley was accompanied up river by Clyde Marine’s tug Battler.

Battler cants Waverley so she is pointing downstream in preparation for 2021.

The 2020 global pandemic not only slowed work on returning Waverley to service after her extensive boiler refit – shortening her season from five months to a little over two weeks – social distancing further reduced her passenger carrying capacity by 30%. Waverley Excursions has launched a COVID Relief Appeal to secure sufficient funding to ensure Waverley can survive another winter and return stronger in 2021.

You can help ensure Waverley remains as the ‘Sole Survivor’ by making a donation to the COVID-19 Relief Appeal via the PSPS here.
