The Annual General Meeting of the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society will take place at 1:30pm on Saturday 18th November at The Pierhead Building at the National Assembly for Wales, Cardiff Bay, CF99 1NA.  See travel and location advice below.

The AGM agenda includes:

The Reports of the Council of Management and Reporting Accountants and the Society’s Financial Statements for the year ended 31 December 2016, including reports on:

• PS. Kingswear Castle
• PS. Waverley
• PS. Maid of the Loch
• and, the Society’s Archive.

The meeting will be asked to consider and, if thought fit, to pass three Special Resolutions which are all recommended by Council. Full details of these are given in the recent Autumn issue of Paddle Wheels.

Following the AGM there will be an open forum for members to raise questions and points for discussion.

Finally John Megoran (Master of Kingswear Castle for 28 years) will mark 50 years since the PSPS purchased Kingswear Castle by giving a presentation recalling the period leading up to her purchase by the Society in June 1967 for £600. John will also cover the period of her restoration, firstly on the Medina on the Isle of Wight and then on the Medway. The presentation will also take a look back at the other Paddle Steamers which were still operating along the south coast during the mid 1960s when Kingswear Castle was withdrawn from service on the Dart. 

Travel and location advice

Train disruption: Engineering work is taking place between Bristol and Cardiff on 18 November so members should check the National Rail website to see how it will affect their journey to Cardiff.

Those  arriving at Cardiff Central station have 3 options to get down to the Pier Head building at Cardiff Bay, they can:

1. catch the train from Cardiff Central to Cardiff Queen Street and then change to the Cardiff Bay shuttle train (every 12 minutes) from  platform one at Queen Street station.
2. catch a number 6  bus to  Cardiff bay, To do this  turn right out of main entrance of  Cardiff Central and then first right  before the Clayton Hotel.  The  bus stop is just beyond railway bridge (every 12 minutes)
3. walk down to the Bay, it is just over one mile and the best way is along Lloyd George Avenue.

For people coming by car, follow signs to Cardiff Bay,   plenty of charged  parking all around the area.

There is also an International Rugby match  taking place  between Wales and Georgia, start time 14.30. Although this is not a major international, it will have some impact on roads in the centre of Cardiff and may disrupt some bus routes in the centre.

Other information:

• The AGM is being held in the Pier Head Building which is the beautiful red brick building at the head of Cardiff Bay (near where Campbell steamers once departed)
• Coffee, tea and biscuits will be available at the venue from 12.30.
• There are boat trips available around the bay by various operators.
• There are many places to eat and drink in Cardiff Bay, offering all types of food.
• The Welsh Assembly building (the Senedd) is open for viewing as is the Millennium Centre.
